SUMMER SEASON 2023 GOES AHEAD!

We have a great season planned; lots of brass bands, community choirs, professional theatre, and the Glevum Big Band swinging us into the August Bank Holiday weekend.

All this will be going ahead in spite of a series of set-backs early in the year…  

Arts Council England decided not grant us our usual funding, which meant that we could not afford  the temporary roof to protect the performers.  Disaster!  And Forestry England announced that they have to cut down diseased trees surrounding the site, which means that their heavy machinery may leave our tracks and car parks in a bad state during the summer.  Crisis!

We cast about for alternative ways to run the season, using different venues, or hiring in a marquee for the performers…and then WYEDEAN SCAFFOLDING came to our rescue.  They have provided the temporary roof for the past few years, and they offered the same roof this year… FOR FREE!  

Wyedean Scaffolding’s extremely generous offer has saved the Season.  

With a temporary roof, we can, and will, work round the other problems.   We will use our own funds for all the other things that the Arts Council grant usually covers – and hope people will be extra-generous with donations during the summer so we can recoup some of our costs.

We don’t know how much damage will be done to our tracks and car parks until Forestry England have finished their work.  When we know what we are facing, we can make plans for extra off-site parking if necessary.
